Which contacts can I import?

Spoks is for emailing your own customers and subscribers who have agreed to hear from you.

Written by Alva Dahl

Only import people who have given your store lawful consent to receive marketing. In practice, that means real customers and subscribers of your own Shopify store.

You can import

  • Customers and subscribers from your own Shopify store who agreed to marketing

  • People who signed up through your own forms, pop-ups or checkout

  • Subscribers from your previous email tool who opted in to your store

You can't import

  • Bought, rented or shared lists

  • Scraped addresses, or contacts from lead databases

  • Cold B2B prospect lists, even if the addresses are public work emails

  • Another business's customers, even a partner's

Why it matters

Emailing people who never opted in leads to bounces and spam complaints. That damages your own sending domain, and in many countries it is also against the law.

What happens if a list doesn't qualify

We may pause sending or block the account, and ask you to delete the list.

Not sure about a list?

If you are not sure a list qualifies, don't import it.
