How do I add and delete tags?

Add tags to contacts, remove a tag from a single contact, or delete a tag from your whole account.

Tags are labels on your contacts. You can filter contacts by tag, use tags in segments, and trigger a flow when a contact gets a new tag.

Add a tag to a contact

Go to the Contacts screen and click a contact to open their profile. Under Tags, click Add tag. Tick an existing tag to apply it, or type a new name to create it on the spot.

Remove a tag from a contact

In the contact's profile, press and hold the tag under Tags to remove it. You can also click Add tag and untick the tag, or click the x next to it in the field at the top.

This only removes the tag from that one contact. The tag itself stays available in your account.

Delete a tag from your account

To delete a tag everywhere, open any contact and click Add tag. Hover over the tag in the list, click the three dots next to it, and click Delete tag. The tag is removed from every contact and disappears from your account. The same menu also lets you rename the tag.

A tag has to exist before a filter can offer it

Filter pickers list the tags that are actually in use in your account. A tag you have configured somewhere but that no contact carries yet will not appear in the list, so a flow you are building around a brand new form cannot be finished before the first submission arrives.

The way around it is to create the tags by hand first. Open any contact, ideally a test contact, and add each tag your form applies, spelled exactly as it is spelled in the form. The tags now exist in your account and the filter picker will offer them. Build the flow, then remove the tags from that contact again. The tags stay in your account and your flow keeps working.

Imported tags

Tags can also be added when you import a list of contacts (a tag column in your CSV) or through webhook payloads (a tags array, see Custom fields). Once they are in Spoks, imported tags work like any other tag: you can remove them from contacts or delete them from your account in exactly the same way, no matter where they came from.
